This site looks at some myths that have grown up around the theory of relativity.
The background to the theory is set by a discussion of some of the people, and their ideas, that have contributed to our understanding of space and time.
Then there is a presentation of the myths, and why they may be allegorical.
To help to dispel the myths, we give an insight into the nature of spacetime.
Lastly, there is speculation on the subject of String Theory, a major revision of Special Relativity, and some alternatives to Einstein's theory.
This discussion is written in a non-technical manner, and is intended to be understood by anyone who is interested in the concepts behind Einstein's Theory of Relativity. Very little maths is given, and where it is included, the meaning is described in words. However, some of the ideas expressed are inherently complex. So links are provided to fuller explanations of the topics as they arise.
